Collectible card games in video game universes and more

Oh, how many warm memories from this one word. Although as a child I was not able to fully understand the coolness and scale of real CCGs, such as “Berserk” or “MTG”. But I had “light” CCGs made from chips, friends and imagination.

1. The first thing that comes to my mind from the Chips CCG are cards with football players:

As you can see, the cards do not have any characteristics, and this is where our imagination came into play and we gave the cards our own according to the following criteria:
1. Football player’s favorite.
2. Number of games he played.
3. Place in the team (usually forward or defender).

There were also “supports” – a coach or a card with a flag could buff others in different ways.
It is worth saying that the rules often differed in different regions yards.

2. In the next category I want to include (as we called them) “Reflectors”.
We had 2 episodes, with the characters:

To be honest, we all had little idea how to play them, there were a lot of stats, the numbering was unclear, so we used them as collectible chips. I note that we considered cards with logos to be the most valuable. Having a lot of them was cool, as they were valuable not only as cards with iridescent designs, but also as having the ability to fit together.

From 6 cards you could add:

Or come up with your own figure. We liked to make a catapult out of two cards.

Actually, this is where my acquaintance with the “Light” CCGs ended, over time I got a ps2 and a computer. There I was able to experience all the charm of CCGs and partly hate them. But more on that in Chapter 2.

I want to dedicate the second chapter to the founder of CCGs in RPGs and computer games in general Triple Triad.

What is Triple Triad?? This is a CCG that came to us from Final Fantasy VIII
In the world of this game, it has become something of a cult; everyone plays it: from adults to children.
Secret societies and cults appear around it, in which people call each other code names, although wait..

The point of the game is to fill the playing field

cards of your color.

Triple Triad cards look like this:

The forces of each side are written in the upper left corner. For example, this card has a strength of 2 on top, 1 on the right, 4 on the bottom and left. and each card has a certain element (this is thunder)

At the beginning of the game, all your cards are the same color. When you place your card next to your opponent’s card, a battle occurs, if the strength of the touching side on your card is greater than the strength of the touching side on your opponent’s card, then you flip over his card and it becomes your color. There is also additional. rules for each settlement and blah blah blah..
There are a lot of rules, and I haven’t yet mentioned the conditions under which the loser’s cards are given away.

All these rules are annoying. Slottiocasinouk.net Why? — Due to randomness in the rules and the chance of losing your rare cards for the reasons below:

Pushing your ass, getting one rare card
@
You put it in the deck
@
You play with a kami that is an idiot according to the Direct rule, during which even after losing, the opponent takes all the cards that he turned over during the game (including yours).
@
You win
@
You discover that you are missing a card GUESS WHICH

I think this describes Triple Triad best.

There will also be a meeting with the “Queen of Cards”, who is impossible to defeat without prayers and special tactics, since she cheats and changes the rules as she wants! Add to this the fact that you need to know what rules they play by in each city.
Sometimes in order to defeat her you need to let her win a certain card from your deck and that’s all. (now tell me about your “sweaty” skating rinks in HS).

Okay, okay, we went through the hell of rules that tend to change and degrade; defeated the "Queen of Cards"; played with every homeless person and flying snail in the city: “and what?"And the fact that rare cards can be exchanged for rare gear (hurray!), but you don’t need it and shouldn’t need it.

To sum it up: Triple Triad is an example of a complex CCG in a video game that set the fashion for all other games in this genre. And I HATE her to the core! It would be better to spend time improving the combat mechanics and story than on it.
Although the time spent on Triple Triad could have been spent on drawing magic spells, it seems to me that Escobar’s axiom is in action here.

And, throughout all the games this will be hitting your ears:

You’ll hate her

I want to dedicate the third chapter to a follower of Triple Triad, namely the game Pazaak

TCG Pazaak came to us, as one might guess, from the Star Wars K universe.O.T.O.R I, II" and is the most popular card game in the Galaxy.

Like all card games, Pazaak quickly became a game of chance. Many avid gamblers won’t even talk to you without discussing bets.

Pazaak is the direct successor of Triple Triad, but in comparison with him, the rules of the game can be said to have been “casualized” and, in my opinion, this only benefited the game. The most important innovation in the rules is that your cards remain with you even if you lose, and the rules determine only the final prize – this is good news.

Types of Rules:

1. Classic – for credits

2. Senate of the Republic – no rates

3. Nar Shaddaa – to undress

The main goal of the game is to fill the 3×3 playing field

with your cards to collect 20 points without busting, or to get closer to these 20 points than your opponent.

At the beginning of each turn, a green card appears on the player’s field with points from 1 to 10.

Note: in the first part "K.O.T.O.R."they are yellow

It is to them that you need to throw cards that can reduce (-) or increase (+) your points. In some situations, betting nothing is the best tactic.
It happened to me that on the first and second moves cards with 10 points appeared and I won without throwing away a single card of mine.

There are 5 common types of cards in the game and one very rare one:

The cards are the most standard, with denominations ranging from 1-6

Cards, depending on the player’s choice, can be either + or –

Very rare plus or minus cards, whose values may change depending on the wishes of the player.

Flip cards — improved cards with zero value, changing the sign of some cards on the gaming table (from + to -) and vice versa.

A rare card that doubles the value of the last card played.

A very rare card that acts like ±1, but in case of a tie, the player who used this card wins.

From all the cards you can build a deck

of 10 cards, but for the game (3 rounds) you will be given only 4 random cards from the deck.

Bottom line: In my opinion, Pazaak was an excellent addition to the Star Wars game universe, but as a CCG it is weak. Firstly, it has simple mechanics based on randomness (but not annoying). And I wouldn’t say that there is collecting in Pazaak, it’s more about collecting the strongest “+ / -” cards
By collecting a deck from them and adding the very card won on Telos-4, you will win with enviable regularity.

By the way, you can play Pazaak online and you won’t believe where you can find a link to the site? Right in the description under the video on Google.
